After two years of hard graft in venues around the UK, things are starting to fall into place for Coventry singer/songwriter Al Britten. Following the release of his self financed debut album ‘If You’re Standing, You’re Fair Game’ he has shared the bill with acts such as The Enemy, Narina Pallot, Nizlopi, Vijay Kishore, and Devon Sproule.
Al’s music has developed since the recording of his album, and now favours a more stark but intricate guitar style coupled with the familiar edge and consciencious lyricism that caracterised his earlier work. Al is currently playing solo gigs to an ever increasing audience, winning them over with his contemporary take on folk music with an attitude. His vision proves that songs you want to hum can also carry a message.
“I’ve always thought that if you have something to say in a song, make it catchy so it’s more memorable. It’s amusing to me that I can put on a Bob Dylan or Jackson C. Frank album, then listen to some Cold War Kids and get equally excited.” Al plans to record again in the coming months, and can be contacted at: al@albritten.co.uk
